Hello! I’m Carole Ann.
Carole Ann Penney, CPC
life purpose coach / mom / blogger / modern quilter / arts & culture administrator
I’m on a mission to help you connect the dots in your life.
I’m a self-proclaimed slasher – which means that whenever someone asks me the question “What do you do?” I can’t help but give them more than one answer. A slasher is a person who expresses different dimensions of themselves through multiple careers.
I’ve been a slasher for as long as I can remember. I used to think that because I had many different projects going on at once, I was totally lost. I carried around a business card wallet that I had to custom-make for myself – it had four different pockets for my four different business cards.
I was passionate about each of my jobs, but felt directionless and fragmented. When I went to the office, I felt like I was leaving parts of myself at home. I was constantly switching into different modes. I wondered why other people could commit to a single-track career when I felt the need to be involved in many pursuits at once.
I was unsure of how to explain myself to other people. When they asked me what I did for work, I would say things like, “Well, for my day job I’m a this, but in my other life, I’m a that.” I started to think about that answer, and it really didn’t feel right to me.
Then, I stumbled upon the concept of slashers in a book called One Person/Multiple Careers by Marci Alboher, and in it I immediately recognized myself. There are parts of me that deeply enjoy nerding out on a database to systematize and organize information, and there are also parts of me that love to cut up fabric and make a huge mess in my studio while I’m creating my next quilt.
At one time, I thought of these two things as polar opposites. But secretly, in my heart, I knew that they were somehow connected.
When I show up to the office, I’m showing up as an administrator, but also as a coach and a creative thinker – because I’m showing up as Carole Ann and I am a whole, integrated person.
I connected the dots between all of my projects and why I value them them to find my common thread. I turned the slashes into dashes and stitched together the unique “Carole Ann-ness” that runs through it all.
This thread is made up of my sense of purpose and core values: I care deeply about reflection, personal and professional growth, and creative self-expression. I believe that by knowing and understanding yourself as much and as deeply as possible – reflecting on what’s important to you, who you are, how you can grow, and what core values you hold closest to your heart – you can be the best version of yourself, and make purpose-driven decisions in your life.
I’m tuned in to this inner-work in others – what goes on inside a person’s head and heart. I’m deeply curious about what makes you tick, what’s most important to you, and how that influences how you spend your time and energy.
I want to help you uncover the thread that connects the separate identities that make you you; encourage you to view yourself as whole, integrated person; and support you as you intentionally create balance in your life and share your uniqueness with the world, every single day.
I’d love to help you connect the dots in your life!
