As a modern quilter, I love to create designs that are simple, clean, and eye-catching. Modern quilts are characterized by bold prints, solid colors, negative space, and improvisational design. Believe me – these are not your grandma’s quilts!
I love quilting because I love creating something that is a special and comforting part of people’s lives. My quilts are all made to be used – to be snuggled under on the couch, to warm up someone’s bedroom, and to become a part of people’s lives and homes.
Each quilt that I make is unique and personal. I create quilts that mark big moments in people’s lives – the arrival of a new baby, starting graduate school, getting married, or purchasing a new home. The time I spend at my sewing machine and design wall creating a quilting is time spent thinking about the quilt’s recipient, what makes them special and unique, and how the quilt can communicate something personal about this new phase in their lives.
I’m the Founder and President of the Rhode Island Modern Quilt Guild, an affiliate chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild, the international organization of modern quilting. We gather together monthly as a creative community to share ideas and inspiration and to encourage each other to grow as quilters and as artists.
